The build
Local knowledge, mapped
Travel advice is useless without place context. So the entire product hangs off a custom-branded dark map: hacks are geo-pinned tips — transportation, dining, lodging, health, packing — that you swipe through as cards anchored to the city around you.
From tip to trip
Discover a hack on the map, evaluate it with time, cost, author and distance metadata, then one-tap it into an itinerary. Itinerariez are collaborative — group trips with shared hack lists and collaborator counts were a first-class feature, not an afterthought.
The feature nobody else shipped: Lawz
A per-city legal reference with real statute citations, plain-language summaries and official .gov source links — so travelers could check the rules of wherever they just landed. Crowdsource prompts let the community fill the gaps.
A brand with a wink
A fedora-wearing "travel spy" in a yellow map pin, electric yellow on ink navy, and a playful z-dialect (Hackz, Lawz, Itinerariez) carried from app chrome to App Store screenshots to Instagram templates. A tokenized design system — 7-category icon set, variant-matrixed components, 19 weather icons — powered iOS, Android and web from one library.
Where it ended
The apps shipped with a full go-to-market kit. The client later chose to sunset the product; the design system and codebase remain intact.
